Clean the slate, erase the board, clear the desk... They all mean start anew. There's something about January 1st. Many of us envision what actions we can take to make the upcoming year better than the last. Of course, because of the last couple of economically challenging years we've been focused on how to improve our businesses to increase our revenue. Composing our business plans are essential to meet our goals.

Now's the time to compose your 2011 business plan. Typically business plans include meeting quotas, quarterly, semi-annual and annual goals. What areas will you target to meet these goals; marketing, sales, networking...? Yes, those are all very good ideas, however, if you have not considered adding the goal of improving your communication skills you will miss the foundation of professional and personnel success.. Skillful and compelling communication should be the first goal on your business plan. Without awareness, desire and execution of improved listening, nonverbal and verbal communication and presentation skills you may be missing out opportunities to help grow your business.
